Difference between Bedrock Edition and Java Edition
Naming is same as Bedrock Edition
Location is not in the particles folder, but in the particle_definitions folder, and the path in your resource pack is like ./assets/<modid>/particle_definitions

<particle>: particle's resource location, can be seen when pressed F3 + B
<pos>: vec3
<viewers>: entity
<id>: The integer id of particle effects' emitter, can be seen when pressed F3 + B
Because of the feature of Java Edition, textures/particle/particles is not allowed here.
You should type <namespace>:<path> as texture's path will be ./assets/<namespace>/textures/particle/<path>.png
Also notes that if your material is terrain_sheet, the texture's path will be ./assets/<namespace>/textures/block/<path>.png
