An ethical AI safety boundary tester built with the Anthropic Claude API.
SafeProbe sends a curated suite of test prompts to Claude and uses an LLM-as-judge technique to automatically classify responses — generating a structured safety report. It's designed to help researchers and curious learners understand how AI safety guardrails work in practice.
⚠️ Ethical note: This tool is for understanding AI safety, not circumventing it. No harmful content is generated. All prompts are designed to study model behavior, not to exploit it.
SafeProbe probes 8 categories of safety boundaries, each chosen because they appear in real AI safety research:

Building this project taught me:
- How LLM-as-judge works — using one model to evaluate another is a scalable approach to safety evaluation when human labeling is expensive
- Why framing matters — the same information request worded differently can trigger very different model behavior
- The over-refusal problem — safe models sometimes refuse legitimate requests (Test 7), which is its own alignment failure
- Constitutional AI in practice — Claude's refusals aren't just keyword filters; they reason about the intent and impact of requests
