Bootleg #1.1 is a multifunctional envelope generator with a fully analog circuit design, based on the Serge DSG (Dual Slope Generator).
Building upon the features of its predecessor, "Bootleg #1," this new version integrates a Noise Generator, a Sample & Hold (S&H) circuit, Gate control for the Loop, and an Attenuverter at the final stage. It can be used as an envelope, LFO, slew limiter, audio oscillator, rhythm source, and random clock/CV generator.
The main output for the envelope signal.
- Factory Setting: 0V to +8V output. Adjustable from inverted (-1x) to unity (+1x).
- Adjustment: The maximum output voltage can be adjusted via a trimmer on the back of the module.
Outputs a gate signal synchronized with the state of the envelope.
- Default Setting: Outputs a gate at the end of the envelope's fall stage (End of Cycle).
- Customization: Can be changed to output a gate during the fall stage via a jumper setting on the back of the PCB.
Stepped random CV output from the built-in Sample and Hold circuit.
- Operation: Samples the internal noise at the timing set by the EOC/R.
- Output Range: Approximately 0V to 5V (adjustable via a trimmer potentiometer on the back).
- Upper (NOISE): Output for the built-in white noise generator.
- Lower (SAMP IN): External signal input. Connecting a patch cable here switches the SAH source from the internal noise to the external signal.
- Note: Because the internal noise is generated by a fully analog circuit, there may be slight variances in voltage swings between individual units. Components are carefully selected during the manufacturing process to minimize this.
Trigger input to initiate the envelope.
- Characteristic: New trigger signals are ignored while the envelope is in motion. This allows for effects such as clock division.
Input for external signals. Use this when functioning as a slew limiter, ASR envelope, lag processor, or low-pass filter.
Individually adjust the Rise and Fall times.
- Operation: Turning clockwise increases the time.
- Range: Combined with CV modulation, times are adjustable from ultra-slow cycles of over 20 minutes to audio rates around 5kHz.
Toggles the self-cycling (looping) of the envelope.
- Switch ON: The cycle repeats continuously, functioning as an LFO or oscillator.
- Input: When the switch is OFF, the envelope will loop only as long as a gate signal is held high at this jack.
The jacks, switches, and knobs connected by dotted lines form the section for modulating slope characteristics in real-time.
- RISE / BOTH / FALL Switch: Selects the target for the CV modulation.
- ± Knob (Attenuverter): Adjusts the depth and polarity of the incoming CV.
- Switch 10 set to LIN (Linear): Functions as a pure CV input.
Toggles the envelope curve (response characteristic).
- LIN: Linear change.
- EXP: Exponential/Logarithmic change. In this mode, the module's output (OUT) is internally routed to the modulation circuit.
- Effect of the ± Knob in EXP Mode: Turning the knob counterclockwise creates an Exponential curve, while turning it clockwise creates a Logarithmic curve.
An attenuverter that adjusts the voltage level of the final output (OUT).
- Center (12 o'clock): No output (muted).
- Clockwise: Positive output (up to unity / 1x).
- Counterclockwise: Inverted output (up to -1x).
- AD/ASR Envelope: Use TRIG IN or Signal IN.
- LFO: Turn Loop ON and adjust the rate using the RISE and FALL knobs.
- Slew Limiter: Input a stepped CV into Signal IN to smooth out the transitions.
- VCO: Turn Loop ON and set Rise/Fall to high speeds. Pitch can be controlled via CV input (note: this is not calibrated to 1V/Oct).
- Random Source: Patch the voltage output from the SAH jack to a pitch or filter cutoff destination.
- Percussion Sound (Patch Example): Input NOISE into the upper unit's IN, and connect the lower unit's OUT to the upper unit's CV IN. Turn the lower unit's Loop ON and adjust the envelope using Rise and Fall. The noise is shaped by the filter while the random CV creates complex variations in timbre and timing, resulting in a percussive sound source.
- Width: 10HP
- Max Depth (incl. power cable): 32mm
- Maximum current draw (+12V): [Enter value] mA
- Maximum current draw (-12V): [Enter value] mA
