A curated list of 5K monitors for Mac, with a focus on Apple Silicon, Retina scaling, and Thunderbolt.
5K (5120x2880 at roughly 218 PPI on a 27-inch panel) is the resolution macOS was tuned for. It produces a pixel-perfect 2560x1440 Retina workspace with no fractional scaling, no blurry text, and full subpixel anti-aliasing. This list catalogs every 5K monitor a Mac user can realistically buy in 2026, with the connectivity and color details that matter on macOS.

macOS does its best work when the display can offer a 2x scaling factor without arithmetic. On a 27-inch 5120x2880 panel, that scaling gives you a 2560x1440 Retina workspace with no interpolation, no blurry typography, and full subpixel rendering. The same Mac driving a 27-inch 4K panel must either run at native 3840x2160, where text becomes very small, or scale to a non-integer factor, where text becomes soft. 5K avoids that tradeoff entirely.
The features that matter most on Mac: a single-cable Thunderbolt or USB-C connection with DisplayPort Alt Mode so one cable carries video, USB, and power to the MacBook; at least 90W of power delivery to keep a 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro charged under load; native P3 wide color with accurate factory calibration so colors match Apple Silicon laptops without extra profiling; and macOS-aware features like Apple's True Tone or BenQ's M-book mode that adjust gamma to match the laptop screen.
