Addressing the demise of Query Chest

Just in time for another publication, I became aware of Query Chest having flushed their cache of SPARQL queries at some point in mid-July 2026. As a consequence I abandoned Query Chest and all other link shortener and provide URL-encoded URLs for the results of each query on Wikidata's main SPARQL endpoint. The documentation has been consequently expanded to include both the new links and the now obsolete links to Query Chest for resolving historical links to the service.

significant updates to queries and much improved documentation

Since the first release, I have updated existing and added many new queries. The largest change, however, is the much improved documentation. This now includes a list of many SPARQL queries with short descriptions, a link to the live-query, and a screenshot of the results.

Initial release

This is an initial release of SPARQL queries for querying Wikidata for periodicals, with a particular focus on Arabic periodicals and periodicals from the Eastern Mediterranean published before 1930. This release accompanies https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14112647.
