Hi, I’m Jorge

Welcome to my GitHub profile!

About Me

I am originally from Tampico, Tamaulipas in Mexico. 🇲🇽

I’m an experimental chemist turned computational chemist turned computational scientist—now diving deep into the realms of weather, climate, and geophysics. I've gone from Tampico, to Puebla, to Iowa 🌽🇺🇸 , to the Australian Capital Territory 🇦🇺

Current Work

  • Role: Computational Scientist at NCI in Canberra, Australia
  • Collaborations: Working with ACCESS-NRI, NOAA, and research groups across Australia
  • Focus Areas: Weather & climate modelling, geophysical systems, and high-performance computing (HPC)

Technical Interests

  • Massively parallel architectures & HPC, especially with compiled languages:
Fortran (my favorite), C, C++ (despite our differences!)
  • Making GPU acceleration accessible from Fortran, and exploring its capabilities as far as possible

Hobbies & Fun Facts

  • Reading, running, and cycling
  • Painting Warhammer 40k miniatures (Sisters, and Emperor's Children)
  • Playing Magic: The Gathering
  • I really dislike Python (but respect it)

Feel free to connect or check out my repos related to HPC, climate science, quantum chemistry, and Fortran optimization!
