As the developer doesn't plan on maintaining compatibility I would suggest, if the optimizations are applicable to the Vulkan Mod, to include them or, if out of scope, to consider forking a Vulkan specific version to maintain compatibility (This might depend of licensing).

IF doesn't require Sodium, this is a standalone mod. Moreover, IF 1.1.16 (and even 1.1.17 with some tricks) can work with VulkanMod via dependency overrides on Minecraft 1.20.4.

It's worth clarifying that it works, but 50/50, since the developers we're just starting to realize that direct OpenGL queries now need to be rebuilt, roughly speaking, from scratch. AND I HAVE NOT TESTED FFMPEG YET BECAUSE I need to work, not go back to literally two years ago when I could be wasting my time and not developing personally. But upon quick analysis, I noticed a very tricky point:

1. Half the UI is literally empty.
   And that's it, so I'm editing it as "Works from version 1.21.1 and above."...
   Thanks for your clarification that after two years, the replay mod developers have achieved an achievement in reworking their mod, but it may still be unstable on lower versions and requires testing.

Ran into a few more of these testing a ~200 mod pack on 0.6.7+1.21.1 (Linux/Wayland, RADV 780M, Fabric 1.21.1), dumping them here since #674 wanted a list.

Crashes:

• Xaero Minimap/Worldmap (Xaero's World Map and Xaero's Minimap are not compatible. Add to wiki? #674): their ImprovedFramebuffer throws Unexpected min filter value: 0 in VkGlRenderbuffer.updateSampler. Looks like a VulkanMod bug tbh, renderbuffers don't have a sampler so filter 0 shouldn't blow up. Fixing that should unblock any custom-FBO mod.
• AsyncParticles: calls GL.getCapabilities() at init, dies with No GLCapabilities instance set (no GL context). Mod side.
• AtlasViewer: mixin can't inject into TextureUtil.prepareImage because MTextureUtil rewrites it. require=0 on their injector fixes it. Mod side.

Separate VulkanMod NPE: open chat, tab out, and a GUI shader compiles with no active render pass, so state.renderPass is null in GraphicsPipeline.createGraphicsPipeline. Repros pretty reliably.

Already working on a couple of these (the renderbuffer fix and the AtlasViewer require=0), PRs incoming. Can split the VulkanMod bugs into their own issues if that's easier to track.

Would LOVE to get some basic third-party shader support into Beryl btw, maybe You can provide me with an Interface?
Very sad that it's closed source ARR but understandable since it probably took a lot of effort.
My guesstimated approach would be to create a translation-layer for optifine/iris shaders but honestly no idea yet since I can't view the source.

VulkanMod is very different between the game versions and so is compatibility, hence you should only test with the current main development version of the mod. Furthermore the list in this thread is heavily outdated and should not be referred to in any way.
Berly is not meant and will never be a Iris/Optifine replacement. It's only able to provide the performance it does due to working in a very different way and not allowing loading different shaders.
Support fo Xaero mods is already in the works for 1.26.2, so there is no need for a PR there.

Bit of a bummer on Beryl, though the performance reasoning makes sense. Just to clarify my angle: I wasn't after loading external shaderpacks. Complementary is a single pack that already serves wildly different looks purely through its own config, so customization doesn't have to mean loading different shaders. If Beryl ever grew that kind of in-pack configurability it'd cover what I'd want. Either way the perf clearly wins for most people c:

Also just out of curiosity, how do you relate to xCollateral? Noticed you've got a fork of VulkanMod and I'm trying to work out which version is the one to actually build and test against.

The main development is done in the dev branch on version 1.21.11, all other versions are port patches applied to that dev branch. Minecraft and its mods behave very differently rendering vise in the different game versions, so this is where extra incompatibilities come from. The reason it's done this way is to reduce development time by not having to port multiple versions with different fixes.
Beryl is still only 3-4 months old, so there are many features and optimizations still on the TODO list. What you described is exactly what we plan on doing in the near future. Beryl will be a fixed shader, but you will be able to configure all sorts of things and be able to load configuration files.
Regarding the last question, I'm one of the Discord moderators of VulkanMod and have been on the project for about 3 years now with smaller contributions here and there.

Found a few things while getting my 1.21.1 pack going, all up against dev:

• Fix crash on renderbuffers with no sampler filter (#674) #870
• Fix crash when a graphics pipeline is bound with no active render pass #871
• Fix texture corruption when GL_UNPACK_ROW_LENGTH is left at its default of 0 #872

Maybe see if you can use some of #870 even tho you're already working on Xaero compat :)
Worth flagging though: these aren't really Xaero compat patches, Xaero just tripped them.
#872 especially hits any mod that leaves UNPACK_ROW_LENGTH at the GL default. All three
are verified in game on 1.21.1.
