Received from Tris Kipling: "it would be good for the probe to report what DNS and / or DHCP server it used for its test within the json message sent to splunk. I had an issue recently where DHCP was specifying multiple local DNS servers to the wlanpi, which then had different and hugely varying lookup times depending on the name you were looking up against which DNS server."
