Currently, code depends on docdb_lite repo, which is a bit of a mess (lots of old cruft from past versions of code for other purposes). This repo is used for many ongoing projects and analyses in the Lescroart lab, which is why the code hasn't been cleaned up and refactored (hard to change ships mid-stream). Here, we can either incorporate what functions within docdb_lite we need into a sub-module of vedb-store, or we can totally refactor the forked repo in the vedb org and leave it as a dependency.
