The title say it all. And yes, we all hate cookies warnings like there is no tomorrow, but please use a cookie to remember the settings from session to session. Right now if I set (basically nothing, but just keep the defaults) and then paste a new URL, the flipping settings dropdown is open all over again, which is kind of irritating...

we don't need cookie warnings, also not if we use some for only technical stuff. it's tight in the gdpr, but we'd fit into their regulations I'm very sure.

you'll need to mention explicitly which "settings", we very likely won't ever include all bcs that'd be insane :D

using cookies makes no sense here, as cookies are meant to be read server side. If we wanted to persist state across page refresh, we'd use local storage. That being said, we already do that for the map extent, and I think extending it to other aspects of UI state makes sense to some degree!

And I think what @prino means is the open/closed state of the left side panel. Maybe we could also remember it for the state of the advanced settings panel on the right.

right, of course we'd never use cookies in any case on that app. but the same more or less applies to localstorage (from gdpr perspective), in fact using cookies would be much safer!

Also, but I probably need to add another request for it, the "Reset Waypoints" button is badly placed, if you want to delete waypoints from the bottom up and don't move your mouse up every time, you reset all of them, you might want to swap the add/reset positions.
