Sample time

Hello

I'm a little confused about the sample time. If I give there a value, does the code somehow work automatically with that time?

Or should I for example in Atmel AVR give a value for PID sample time variable, and manually setup AVR internal timer registers etc. to calculate the same time interval to call the PID with the same time period as I gave for the PID?

I took a closer look on the links found in source code and yes, I have to arrange PID function call time period so that it match with given sample time (in seconds), so then Kp, Ki and Kd can be given straight from the tables where are common calculation formulas.

In Atmel AVR I could use in built timers and make the PID function calls according to the timer so that timing is as accurate as possible. Those _delay_ms() functions may b possible too, but if I have many other things going on in interrupt routines, the timing may not be so accurate and it is difficult to make some other functions with same uController, as there will always be that delay going on. There will be four buttons, LCD display and two pulse sensors that should also work along with the PID controller in my case.

I'm not actually working for anyone, I'm just a regular Google user and I just found this PID code from Google and I'm going to try it with Atmel AVR ATmega328P which I have in my hands. As it is said, this should be Platform independent PID controller.
