Hidden sidebar with no indication #77

Description

@gapost

Describe the bug

When the width of the editor tab window becomes smaller than some threshold (about 600px in my system), then the sidebar is not shown. Pressing the "toggle sidebar" button does nothing and gives no indication that the sidebar cannot be shown due to size limitations.

In my case, this led me to believe that the HDF5 I had opened was empty and had to double check with other h5 tools until I found out what was happening.

To Reproduce

  1. Open a HDF5 file in VS Code
  2. Open the sidebar
  3. Shrink the view width (either resize the whole VS Code window or only the editor tab)
  4. sidebar is closed
  5. Press the "Toggle sidebar" button
  6. Nothing happens, no warning message displayed

Expected behaviour

A message box "Window too small to show the sidebar"

Context

  • OS: TUXEDO OS (Ubuntu 24.04 clone)
  • VS Code version: 1.125.1 from microsoft repo
  • Extension version: 0.2.2
