Clarification & access request for UHD and Libiio pre-built binaries/repos, and USB 3 usage question #8

Description

@RabihND

Hi team,

I’m currently exploring the project and noticed:

  • The libiio component has pre-built images and the build repository appears accessible, which suggests users can rebuild the files.
  • The uhd section lists a pre-built image, but I haven’t found any repository or build scripts to recreate it.

To move forward, I’d appreciate clarification on the following points:

🛠️ UHD build access

  1. Repository visibility
    • Where can I find the sources or build scripts for the uhd pre-built image for this board?
    • Is this currently open-source or private?
  2. Build process
    • For both uhd and iio, is it possible to rebuild the .bin files using public sources?
    • If not yet public, are there plans to open-source them?

🖥️ USB‑only operation question

The Pluto SDR supports using a USB‑Ethernet adapter (e.g. Realtek RTL8153) to stream data over Ethernet while using USB for power and debugging.

Could you clarify if, for the uhd and iio modes in this project:

  • It’s possible to connect only via USB 3 (using the built-in USB port), and operate both UHD or IIO mode without using Ethernet?
  • Essentially: can the board be used in “USB‑only” mode, ignoring Ethernet altogether? I see its functionality with the 5G demo in your video, but I want to see if it works with OpenWiFi, for example.

Knowing this will inform whether I need Ethernet connectivity or if a USB‑only setup is viable.
