BILRESA dual button - no activities

BILRESA dual button doesn't work. When creating a scene in IKEAs Home smart app and link a button press to this scene, I get an event in Home Assistants developer tools:

i see my bilresa button in the homeassistant integration twice and only the state of charge without buttons

In case this helps: If you go to the device panel and try to add an automation, using the device as a trigger, it offers 4 triggers: Single Click, Long Press, Double Click and battery level changes. However, they do nothing. If you listen to matter events in Developer Tools, or indeed all events (with *) there are no events triggered by pressing the buttons. Inside Dirigera, the button can be used to trigger actions so is working correctly. The button is set in Dirigera to control scenes, although it doesn't seem to make any difference what it is set to

In the meantime I've switched to Matter between home assistant and Dirigera. BILRESA works, but when it went into standby, any press took minutes for any action. After some frustrations I finally ordered a ZBT-2 for home assistant and everything works now. But I'll keep Dirigera, because i'm new to smart home and use next months for playing around. I prefer to use this addon if all new IKEA devices will be supported, because this works with pure http connection and home assistant can then run in any network segment.

This is the same issue as #177 - the BILRESA is a lightController type device that sends remotePressEvent WebSocket messages, which were being discarded by the integration.

I've created PR #186 that adds support for remotePressEvent. This will make BILRESA, STYRBAR, RODRET and similar remotes work in Home Assistant automations.

Workaround (until PR is merged)

You can use my fork which includes this fix:

HACS Custom Repository: https://github.com/nrbrt/dirigera_platform

Add it via HACS → 3-dot menu → Custom repositories → paste the URL → select "Integration"

After installing, button presses will fire dirigera_platform_event without needing to create scenes in the IKEA app.

If you have the scroll wheel (rotating dial with 3 LED indicators), unfortunately the Dirigera API doesn't send action events for genericSwitch devices. See my analysis in #172. The workaround is to connect the scroll wheel directly to Home Assistant via native Matter integration instead of through Dirigera.

@m3gg3 - you mentioned seeing it "twice with only battery sensors" - that sounds like the scroll wheel (which appears as 3 battery sensors for its 3 switch groups). Can you check the model number on the device?

First, thanks a lot!! I read all your conversations, also from other issues and installed another home-assistant for testing your pull requests. I also see one button twice, but only one button. My second button is listed once. Both are dual button bilresa.

Edit: sorry, also my 2nd bilresa is listed twice, should go to bed soon...

Edit2: also timmerflotte temp sensor is showed twice, one for temperature, one for humidity. I'm pretty sure I remember that bilresa was showed twice already. one entry for button 1, 2nd for button 2

Thanks for testing! I did some investigation on my end with a RODRET wireless dimmer (2 buttons).

Finding: RODRET sends the same device ID for both buttons

When pressing both buttons on my RODRET, all events come in with the same device ID (xxx_1):

There's no _2 device in the API - both physical buttons map to the same logical device. This means the Dirigera API doesn't differentiate between the two buttons on RODRET. This is an IKEA API limitation, not something we can fix in the integration.

Question about BILRESA dual button:

Could you check if your BILRESA dual button (E2442) has the same limitation?

1. Enable debug logging for custom_components.dirigera_platform
2. Press button 1 a few times
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Press button 2 a few times
5. Check the Home Assistant logs for remotePressEvent messages

If you see different device IDs (like xxx_1 and xxx_2) for each button, then BILRESA dual button supports distinguishing buttons. If both buttons send xxx_1, then it has the same limitation as RODRET.

I also have a STYRBAR (4 buttons) but couldn't test it yet - will update when I can.

Device ID is the same. But doesn't matter, it works.

On my side, I see two devices for a single BILSERA. One corresponds to button one (single press, long press, dual press, Battery level). All of these work and can be used in automation to turn on a given light for instance. The second device also shows 1 button with the same single/dual/long press. I thought it would correspond to button 2 but it is not working. I am willing to help if you do not have the device but my skills are limited.
