Strange behaviour when adding a second keyboard layout

Pastiera settings show two layouts (English and Russian), but the system settings via the "globe" icon shows English twice.

Correspondingly, when switching with Ctrl-Space the English layout is also cycled twice.

This is a Unihertz Titan 2 device.

Some more information: turning Pastiera off and on in system keyboard settings resets Pastiera back to only two layouts (English and Russian).

Then if I focus on any text field and switch layouts three times in a row with Ctrl-Space a second English layout appears.

Might this be some weird interaction with the Android system? As I understand it, the Ctrl-Space shortcut is implemented somewhere in the system's physical keyboard service, not in Pastiera.

Might it be possible to add a layout switching shortcut in Pastiera itself?
