v1.12.0-rc1 Testing: Call for help from the community #886

Testing Instructions

A release candidate for the 1.12.0 release has been posted. The 1.12.0 is a major release. There is no update to either OpenStudio (3.11.0) or EnergyPlus (25.2.0) in this release. However, there are some big improvements that need some testing.

The biggest new feature is full OpenStudio Application translation to 18 languages by Mike Lovejoy (@Ski90Moo) of Helix Energy Partners! The translations apply to all tabs in the OpenStudio Application except for the embedded Geometry Editor and Viewer tabs. Translations were assisted by AI, so we need support from native speakers to review the accuracy of these translations. IDD and Output Variable names were translated; however we are not sure if these translations are accurate or useful (as the EnergyPlus Input Output Reference is not translated). Languages available: French, Spanish, Farsi- Persian, Italian, Chinese, Greek, Polish, Catalan, Hindi, Vietnamese, Japanese, German, Arabic, Hebrew, Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish

Additionally, the OpenStudio Application is now updated to Qt version 6.11.0. This breaks the Qt binary compatibility with SketchUp. However, the OpenStudio SketchUp Plug-in now has a web-based inspector dialog which does not require that the OpenStudio Application and SketchUp use the same version of Qt!

Additional new features:

  • BCL integration with the new bcl.nlr.gov website
  • Site subtab for ground temperatures
  • Ability to change model from the 3D Geometry Preview View

Are you willing to test it out to help us make a great product? This will only take a few minutes of your time, yet it is absolutely critical for us to be aware of bugs.

Ready? You're awesome, thank you!

Please take a look at the release notes as they showcase the new features and bug fixes, so you know what to look for

Then try it out. You'll find a checklist below of things to try out, but please do feel free to go off-script, and if you can even try it out with your real world models that's even better.

When you're done, please report back by posting on this issue, with the following template filled out.
