Group "hide" status doesn't affect (vector) layers inside

I have created a group and inside this group I have several vector layers.
Each of these layers can be hidden by clicking on the "eye" icon. But if all layers are visible and I try hide the group I would expect that this hides the layers inside, but it doesn'T seem to have any effect.
I would expect that if I hide the group if should automatically hide all layers inside this group.

See attached screenshot. The group is set to hide, but the layers (and their content) are still visible on the map.
All I can see if I set the group to hide is, that the title color of the vecotr layers inside get a lighter color.
