"Count Up" function uses a "." not "comma"

I am in the U.S. and language set to English. When I use the "count up" under "Presenting"for a number the ending result is with a "." instead of a "comma". For exampl, is my number is 1,000 then the it will count up correctly when the slide is started but the ending result will be "1.000". I realize this is the European nomenclature. Is there a way to set this to is a comma?
