This is the "umbrella" issue for 1.0, containing a list of "must haves" to make the library feel complete. If you'd like to work on one of these items, please create an issue with the title and I will link it to this issue.

Shipped in 1.0:

• Create a fbt:list pseudo-component to wrap intlList, @cpojer, see Implement <fbt:list>. #18.
• "Why fbt is better (than other solutions)" in README.
• Open source locale client side modules used in Athena Crisis and add them to fbtee, @cpojer.
  • See getLocale.
• Simplify initial setup with a default viewer context.
• Write a tutorial on how to use fbtee in a React Router app._
• How to detect the user language based on browser settings._

Shipped in 1.2.0:

• Simplify the CLIs significantly by using better defaults. Ideally most projects should just be able to run pnpm fbtee collect etc. without arguments.
• Create a new website.
• Improve/update docs folder.
• Examples for Next and app router and others.

Shipped in 1.8.0:

• Rust based plugin for folks who don't want to use Babel.
• Ensure fbtee is fast. Performance analysis and improvements for the Babel plugins.

Features for 2.0:

• Make all errors as user friendly as possible.
• Support modern locale identifiers without breaking backwards compatibility + add migration scripts.
• Decide whether the number internationalization code should be used or if Intl should be used instead.
• (maybe, maybe not) Fix whitespace behavior to more closely match JSX.

Features for 3.0:

• Use real React components instead of fake React Elements. #37

Note: React Router documentation could eventually also be used for Tanstack Start in future, as the errors encountered are - from my current perception - likely the same.

Would it be possible to support React 18.2+ instead of 19?

It's unfortunately not possible to support both React 18 and React 19 at the same time. You can most likely patch the fbtee package and change this line from:

$$typeof = Symbol.for('react.transitional.element');

to:

$$typeof = Symbol.for('react.element');

and you might need to change the use of Context here to Context.Provider:

fbtee 2.0 was just shipped which is significantly more performant (SWC), and modernizes the library quite a bit, see https://github.com/nkzw-tech/fbtee/releases/tag/v2.0.0
