Support custom units in NumberField

Currently, the NumberField only allows an Intl.NumberFormat unit to be used as a visual indicator. However, mStudio uses the units MiB and GiB to represent storage space, and these cannot currently be displayed in the NumberField. Therefore, it would be useful to support these units, or more generally, to allow custom units to be freely defined.

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll review it with the team and assess the different options.

Supporting MiB and GiB directly would likely be the simpler solution for the current use case. However, there is a risk that this still won't cover all future requirements if other units are needed that are not supported by Intl.NumberFormat.

Allowing fully custom units would provide much more flexibility. At the same time, we would need to define clear guidelines in our styleguide to ensure consistent usage across applications. We would also need to make developers aware of potential pitfalls around accessibility (A11y) and internationalization (i18n), since these aspects would no longer be handled automatically by the underlying standards.
