Plateau 2025: FL - all tables in docs 1 and 2 missing footnote blocks

in Plateau document 1 (sources/001-v5) table 4.2 has a footnote block which shows some notes about the table.

the correctly rendered pdf file (2026-02-11)

from the image you can see this table is placed on a rotated page (landscape) then the page orientation shifts back to portrait mode. i wonder if that is related to the reason why the footer is missing.

the same table rendered in FL with the footnote block missing.

we looked at the other tables and have not found any issues. so perhaps this is a one-off problem related to the page orientation. thank you for checking this as soon as possible.

I’m building locally to check. @ReesePlews Assuming something changed in Metanorma XML markup, do you observe table notes everywhere affected in this way?

hello @strogonoff i am sorry the more we check the more we find, now it looks like most if not every table that had footnotes; i will get some examples soon.

so this is happening in both documents on all tables with a footnote, and it is not a one-off issue and therefore is most likely not related to the change in page orientation. i am sorry i should have checked that better earlier.

additionally, i dont know if this matters, but the github action build was changed to use the main branches of the ruby gems and not the release version. this provides, which you know, better control for the archive that when a gem is updated we can see the update reflected before the release.

@ReesePlews I see that this is caused by a change in how Metanorma outputs footnotes in Presentation XML. The initial behavior of Metanorma was to output footnote contents inline where footnote cue appears, instead where they are actually displayed on the page, so Firelight worked around that (metanorma/firelight#86). The good news is that workaround is not necessary anymore, but that caused a regression because Firelight doesn’t yet know how to interpret the new footnote container element. I hope I can address it this week…
