Hello everyone,
I am self-nominating for the 2026 Kubernetes Steering Committee election.
I joined the Kubernetes community in late 2015 building machine learning and data science applications, and teaching others to do the same. Around 2019, I started contributing to the Kubernetes Cluster Autoscaler and Cluster API projects, becoming the primary maintainer for the Cluster API integration with the Autoscaler. After a few years of contributing to Cluster API and the Autoscaler, I started to work more closely with cloud controller projects and began contributing to the SIG Cloud Provider community eventually becoming a chair and technical leader for the SIG.
I believe that open source software development is the best model we have for building software. But, that model does not come free of charge. We must continually invest our time and energy into ensuring that the community and communication around our projects are healthy. I want to bring my passion and experience to help guide the Kubernetes project on the next part of its journey.
One of the most rewarding activities I have experienced in this community is helping new members become contributors. Regardless of the form, I love seeing the excitement register when a newcomer to this community makes their first contribution. Having strong test automation and processes in place also make this activity easier by putting more power in the contributor’s hands. If elected, I plan to advocate for supporting new community members and for the health of our infrastructure and processes.
thank you,
Michael McCune
