Hey there. The default style (and many of the other available styles) for https://overpass-ultra.us use the OSM US Vector Tile Server. I'm interested in switching to OpenFreeMap because it would make an "export to style.json" feature more valuable, as styles using OpenFreeMap have no restrictions on usage. I just wanted to run the idea of switching over by you @hyperknot. For now, I would update the styles that I host to use OpenFreeMap's tiles. OpenFreeMap would be attributed in the attributionControl and listed as a tile/style provider in the help dialog. Any caveats I should know? (eg: plans to change vector tile schemas, etc)

Out of curiosity, would you be able to give me usage stats? I can't get that from OSM US. The Protomaps styles using the API do have usage, but it's not the default style, so i imagine it's way less:

Unfortunately, once we turn on the CDN it won't be reliable at all, as cached requests won't hit the server. Maybe I can figure out something on Cloudflare, but to be on the safe side I'd say stats won't be available.

I just looked on the website, the styles look really great! Can you tell me about them? Did you port them to use OpenMapTiles, or some of them are using different schemas?

you mean the styles available on overpass-ultra.us? The styles at the top of the list are all OMT-based to begin with. I have some scripts I use to re-host them on https://styles.trailta.sh. The scripts replace:

• the tile url to use https://tiles.openfreemap.org/planet (previously replaced it to use https://tile.ourmap.us/data/v3.json
• the glyphs url to use https://styles.trailta.sh (based on https://github.com/kylebarron/openmaptiles-fonts)
• modify any text-field values using more than one font to only use the first font (bc of the above being a staticly hosted glyph set that cant combine font stacks for fallback)
• modify any text-field value that use fonts not available (this is primarily toner-gl IIRC)
• modify sprites to use https://styles.trailta.sh
• make a copy of the sprites for the prev step

The Protomaps styles are using the protomaps tile schema and hosted by the protomaps API.

OpenTrailStash is my own tileset hosted by me (pmtiles on cloudflare)

and tracestrack and stadia are hosted by those providers respectively.

OSM OpenMapTiles is built from source, all the others are built by downloading the versions hosted on gh-pages for each repo

Thanks, it's all clear now! I thought for a moment that you figured out a way to port all those to OMT scheme, but I understand you are using your own API keys to host them (for example Stadia). Super nice collection there!
