What problem would this solve?
When a user disables notifications for this app (which I did, because it's waaayyy too talkative, sorry 😛 ), they never get update notifications either and miss future updates. Also, with disabled notifications the context menu option to search for updates looks broken, because it does nothing.
Proposed solution
- For the manual update search through the context menu, show the result of the update check as a normal dialog box instead of a notification - the user consciously initiated it in this case, so it's fine to use a more intrusive popup here IMHO.
- After the automatic update check, also indicate available updates elsewhere, e.g. a small indicator that is added to the tray icon and/or a small text notice that is shown in the main app window would help.
