Welcome to Spelite, your streamlined D&D 5e spell management companion. This guide will help you get started with creating your character and managing your spellbook.
When you first open the application, you will be directed to the Setup view to create your first character.
In the Setup tab, you have two main sections: Edit and Manage.
- Go to the Manage tab.
- Click on Create New Character. This will create a blank character sheet and set it as active.
- You can also Import characters from a JSON file if you have a backup or a character shared by a friend.
- All your characters are stored locally in your browser.
- Use the Load button next to a character's name in the Manage tab to switch to them.
- Use the Delete button to remove a character. Warning: This action is permanent unless you have an export.
Once you have a character selected, switch to the Edit tab to fill in their details.
- Name: Enter your character's name.
- Class & Subclass: Select your class. Some classes (like Clerics or Paladins) have specific spell preparation rules that Spelite handles automatically.
- Race: Enter your character's race.
- Level: Set your character's level. This automatically determines your proficiency bonus and available spell slots.
The Ability Scores section allows you to enter your Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores.
- These scores are used to calculate your spell save DC and spell attack bonus (based on your class's primary ability).
- The modifiers are calculated automatically.
- Max HP: Enter your maximum hit points.
- Base AC: Enter your base Armor Class (before modifiers).
Important: Don't forget to click the Save Character button at the bottom to apply your changes!
Switch to the Grimoire view to browse and select spells.
Spelite filters the spell list automatically based on your:
- Class: You only see spells available to your character's class.

- Click the Learn button on a spell card to add it to your grimoire.
- If you have already learned a spell, the button will change to Forget.
- Search: Type a name in the search bar to find a specific spell.
- AI Search: Click the "Enable AI Search" button to switch to semantic search mode.
- First-time usage: A confirmation modal will appear warning you about the ~120MB model download. This download happens only once.
- Conceptual Search: You can search by intent or concepts (e.g., "fire damage", "healing spells").
- Level Filter: Filter spells by a specific level.
- School Filter: Filter by magical school (e.g., Evocation, Necromancy).
- Status Filter: Filter by "Known" or "Learnable" spells.
- Reset: Use the ✕ icon in the search bar to clear your query.
The Dashboard is your "combat mode" view. It displays:
- Your core stats and ability scores.

- Your learned spells, grouped by level.
Click on any spell name in the Dashboard to view its full description, range, components, and duration.
