How to setup and run this testbed?

I intend to use alpha-testbed to evaluate a trust model. However, I cannot set it up in Eclipse? Is there a tutorial on how to setup and run this testbed? If not, could you give me some instructions? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you for your time.

Hi @fooc, and thank you for your interest in ATB.

Currently, the documentation is lacking, but I'm making strides to improve it, when I find the time.

First, you'll need to install Maven build tool. In Debian-based distros this is simple as sudo apt install maven. If you're using some other OS, please consult the maven homepage.

Only running ATB

Now, if you are merely interested in running the ATB and playing with already implemented trust models and scenarios, the set-up is pretty simple.

1. Clone the repository.
2. Navigate in the directory and issue mvn package
3. Run the packaged app with java -jar target/alpha-testbed-X.X.X-jar-with-dependencies.jar where you replace the version number with whatever file has been generated.

Now, you’ll get a GUI where you’ll be able to select the trust model, the scenario, the metrics and all of their parameters, and execute a run.

Writing custom scenarios, trust models and metrics (aka developing plugins)

However, I sense that you'll also want to develop either your own trust models, scenarios or even metrics. In that case, it's best you create a new project, and link ATB as an dependency. This will allow you to access the entire ATB API.

(While I’m using IntelliJ IDEA for Java development, Eclipse IDE should also know how to import maven-based projects.)

In such case you have to start with an empty maven-based project, add ATB as a dependency and then code your solution: trust model, scenario, metric or other.

I’ve prepared a starter application. Feel free to use it as your basis.
