OpenX Assets is our open-source project for building and maintaining high-quality vehicle and traffic simulation assets using ASAM OpenX standards, which is a set of simulation standards commonly used in the automotive industry.
There are several fun and meaningful ways you could contribute to this project as part of your senior design project. Here are some ideas:
Extend Assets with Light Sources
Right now, lights like headlights, taillights, day lights, fog lights, etc., are not very developed. You could help make them more realistic and flexible for simulations.

Extend Assets with Pedestrians
Currently, all assets focus on vehicles.
Adding pedestrian assets with realistic appearances, animations, and even different walking styles would make simulations much richer and closer to real traffic environments. It is better if this can be somewhat automated based on some principles and behavior models. I believe the gaming industry must have a large number of resources. Research them.
You could also experiment with how pedestrians interact with vehicles in simulation, such as crossing the road, waiting at a crosswalk, or unusual/edge-case behaviors.
Perception Validation with Material Properties
The ASAM OpenMATERIAL 3D standard gives a way to define material properties for simulation assets.
You could explore how changing these materials affects sensors and perception in simulations—for example, testing how different car paint or road materials impact what a simulated camera or LiDAR sees.
