Please add kernel 4.9 support

I already tried doing it for a few hours but I got so many build errors and so I gave up.

Wifi6 support and 6ghz also must be removed from the driver doing this or ported to this kernel

What options do I have?

I'm currently working on compatibilty branch for this driver and I may be able to help you once it's done. I will not necessarily be able to test it for you, though, only if it turns out that we are coincidetally using the same adapter. Which driver do you need to compile? Judging by your target kernel version, I assume that you're trying to enable the driver for use with some kind of Android ROM, am I correct?

I specifically need to get the 7921u driver working with kernel 4.9 and yes you're right I need it for my android phone with custom kernel to be able to connect my WiFi adapter to it.

Yes, this is the driver I'm working on. Currently, it compiles for my ROM, but as of yet I didn't test it properly, as I said before. I'll make a pull request with my changes in a couple of days. Be warned, though - it might take more than simply adding the relevant kernel module to use the external Wi-Fi adapter, especially if you wanna use it with Android Wi-Fi framework. I've read that some people struggled with this system even when having working drivers available.

By the way, none of the changes that I've made involve black magic - I simply try to compile the driver, see the error, grep for relevant function or constant and enclose code block that uses it in a macro, like this:

Most of the time it should work, if you are at least somewhat familiar with C. Sometimes though you might need to enclose the whole function, and other places where this driver calls said function. But with grep everything should be manageable, even if tedious. At the very least you won't need to wait around for other people to produce the working code for you.

Ok, now that I've finally found my way around git, here's the new branch, try it. I've already set config MT76_CORE, config MT76_USB, config MT7921U and config MT7921_COMMON to default to m, so in theory that should cover it, however, you may also want to check if config MAC80211 is enabled in your kernel, because in mine it wasn't by default.
