linux issue - it shows the english characters before changing them into tamil

I tried this software in Ubuntu 9.04.

I am able to type using this. But I find when I type a character, it first
prints the english character typed, then changes it to tamil. This happens
very slowly. 

Because of this, i am not able to type faster.

Keyboard used: tamil99
