LioranDB Studio - Enhanced Features & UI Improvements

Overview

LioranDB Studio has been completely redesigned to provide a MongoDB Compass-like experience with professional-grade query management, real-time monitoring, and beautiful light/dark mode theming.

New Components Created

1. QueryListPanel (src/components/QueryListPanel.tsx)

Purpose: Left sidebar panel for managing multiple queries

Features:

  • Create new queries with custom names
  • Duplicate existing queries
  • Delete queries with confirmation
  • Real-time execution status indicators (pulsing dots)
  • Query statistics display (total queries, recently executed)
  • Sortable query list with hover actions
  • Full light/dark mode support

State Management:

  • Uses Zustand store for query CRUD operations
  • Persists to localStorage

2. EnhancedQueryEditor (src/components/EnhancedQueryEditor.tsx)

Purpose: Monaco-based query editor with live updates

Features:

  • Syntax highlighting for JavaScript/MongoDB
  • Code completion and formatting
  • Line numbers and word wrap
  • Responsive padding and sizing
  • Real-time content updates to store
  • Theme-aware editor styling

Monaco Configuration:

  • Font: Monaco/Menlo/Ubuntu Mono
  • Font size: 13px
  • Minimap enabled
  • Format on paste and type enabled

3. QueryResultsPanel (src/components/QueryResultsPanel.tsx)

Purpose: Dual-mode results viewer with rich data visualization

Modes:

  • Table View:
    • Automatic column detection from first 10 fields
    • Expandable rows with JSON preview
    • Hover effects and smooth transitions
  • JSON View:
    • Raw JSON display with syntax formatting
    • Pre-formatted code block

Features:

  • Results export as JSON files
  • Copy to clipboard functionality
  • Execution time display
  • Document count indicator
  • Empty state messaging
  • Scrollable results with sticky headers

4. TopMenu (src/components/TopMenu.tsx)

Purpose: Professional menu bar with File, Edit, and Help menus

Menu Structure:

File Menu:
├── New Query (creates new query with auto-increment name)
├── Open Query
├── Export Queries (downloads all queries as JSON)
└── Exit (with logout confirmation)

Edit Menu:
├── Undo (Ctrl+Z visual indicator)
└── Redo (Ctrl+Y visual indicator)

Help Menu:

Features:

  • Dropdown menus with click-away closure
  • Status bar showing:
    • Total number of queries
    • Connection status with indicator
  • Professional styling with hover effects
  • Keyboard shortcut indicators

5. RealtimeMonitor (src/components/RealtimeMonitor.tsx)

Purpose: Bottom-right panel showing real-time metrics and status

Metrics Displayed:

  • Connection status (Live/Offline)
  • Active connections count
  • Messages per second (real-time throughput)
  • Average latency in milliseconds
  • Animated status indicator

Styling:

  • Position: Absolute bottom-right corner
  • Backdrop blur effect
  • Theme-aware colors
  • Icon indicators with color coding

6. ThemeProvider (src/components/ThemeProvider.tsx)

Purpose: Root-level theme initialization and management

Functionality:

  • Loads theme from localStorage on mount
  • Applies dark class to HTML element
  • Manages Zustand theme store
  • Prevents hydration mismatch with suppressHydrationWarning on html tag

New Store & Hooks

1. Theme Store (src/store/theme.ts)

Purpose: Centralized theme state management

Features:

  • Theme type: 'light' | 'dark'
  • localStorage persistence
  • DOM class manipulation
  • localStorage sync across tabs

API:

- setTheme(theme: Theme): void
- toggleTheme(): void
- loadFromStorage(): void

2. useWebSocketMonitor Hook (src/hooks/useWebSocketMonitor.ts)

Purpose: Simulate real-time metrics for query monitoring

Returns:

  • activeConnections: number
  • messagesPerSecond: number
  • avgLatency: number

Simulation:

  • Updates metrics every second
  • Resets counters on interval
  • Ready for WebSocket integration

Enhanced Existing Components

1. App Store Enhancement (src/store/index.ts)

New Properties:

queries: Query[]              // Array of all queries
activeQueryId: string | null  // Currently selected query ID

New Methods:

deleteQuery(id: string): void

  • localStorage persistence for queries
  • Auto-save on CRUD operations
  • Active query switching with proper state management

2. Dashboard Page (app/dashboard/page.tsx)

Complete Redesign:

  • Replaced old sidebar/navbar with new components
  • Added keyboard shortcuts:
    • Ctrl+Enter: Execute query
    • Ctrl+S: Save query
  • Integrated RealtimeMonitor component
  • Three-panel layout:
    1. Left: Query library
    2. Top-center: Toolbar with DB/Collection selectors
    3. Center: Query editor + results

Features:

  • Query execution with loading state
  • Save query with DB/Collection context
  • Real-time execution state tracking
  • Status bar showing query info

3. Types Enhancement (src/types/index.ts)

New Types:

  • Proper form styling for both themes

5. Global Styles (app/globals.css)

Enhancements:

  • Separate :root and html.dark color variables
  • Smooth transitions between themes
  • Theme-aware scrollbar styling
  • Theme-aware selection colors
  • Monaco editor light mode support

6. Layout Root (app/layout.tsx)

Changes:

  • Added ThemeProvider wrapper
  • Added suppressHydrationWarning to html tag
  • ToastProvider remains for notifications

Storage Persistence

  • Queries auto-save on creation/update/deletion

Migration Guide

If upgrading from previous version:

  1. Theme preference will be loaded from localStorage
  2. Existing queries (if stored) will be restored
  3. Authentication tokens are preserved
  4. User can toggle theme using button in login/dashboard
  5. All keyboard shortcuts should work immediately
