To push your Docker container to both Docker Hub and GitHub Container Registry (GHCR) so
that others can pull it, follow these steps:

1. Prepare Your Docker Image

Make sure your Docker image is built and tagged correctly. For example:

docker build -t your-username/your-app:tag .

• Replace your-username with your Docker Hub username or GitHub username.
• Replace your-app with the name of your app.
• Replace tag with the version or tag you want (e.g., latest).

2. Push to Docker Hub

a. Log in to Docker Hub

If you’re not already logged in, log in to Docker Hub:

docker login

Enter your Docker Hub username and password when prompted.

b. Tag the Image for Docker Hub

If your image isn’t already tagged for Docker Hub, tag it:

docker tag your-app:tag your-username/your-app:tag

c. Push the Image to Docker Hub

Push the image to Docker Hub:

docker push your-username/your-app:tag

Your image will now be available at
docker.io/your-username/your-app:tag.

3. Push to GitHub Container Registry (GHCR)

a. Log in to GHCR

Log in to GitHub Container Registry using your GitHub username and a personal access
token (PAT) with the write:packages and read:packages scopes:

echo "your-personal-access-token" | docker login ghcr.io -u your-github-username --passwordstdin

• Replace your-personal-access-token with your GitHub PAT.
• Replace your-github-username with your GitHub username.

b. Tag the Image for GHCR

Tag the image for GitHub Container Registry:

docker tag your-app:tag ghcr.io/your-github-username/your-app:tag

c. Push the Image to GHCR

Push the image to GHCR:

docker push ghcr.io/your-github-username/your-app:tag

Your image will now be available at ghcr.io/your-github-username/your-app:tag.

4. Make the Image Public

By default, images on GHCR are private. To make it public:

1. Go to your GitHub repository.
2. Navigate to
   Packages (on the right-hand side).
3. Click on your container image.
4. Under Package Settings, click Manage Actions.
5. Set the visibility to Public.

5. Share the Image

Now that your image is pushed to both Docker Hub and GHCR, you can share the pull
commands with others:

• Docker Hub:

docker pull your-username/your-app:tag

• GitHub Container Registry:

docker pull ghcr.io/your-github-username/your-app:tag

6. Automate Future Builds (Optional)

To automate the process of building and pushing images, you can use:

• GitHub Actions: Set up a workflow to build and push images to GHCR and Docker Hub.
• Docker Hub Automated Builds: Link your GitHub repository to Docker Hub for automatic
  builds.
