Performance measurements

Hi,
After switching from supradrive(+bluescsi) to RIDE/lide.device on my 1.3 A500 (1M chip and stock 68000 cpu), it seems that the performance has dropped a bit.

It would make sense to me that a recent hobby project would maybe not be as optimized as a commercial product from the 80s, but would be interesting to see actual data. I still have my Supra, so I can test at some point, but what would be a good test. Is there some benchmark software that could be used?

I also wonder what is the influence of the storage medias (bluescsi/sd-card or CF) is, but I guess their throughput/latency would be magnitudes different to have any effect on the actual perceived speeds on the Amiga?

It would be interesting to know also, if bit banged IDE interface is somehow fundamentally more resource intensive than SCSI, as afaik Supra doesn't use DMA either, if someone knows.

What are the figures you're seeing?

I recommend RSCP and Devtest for performance testing

Devtest is run from the CLI like so:
devtest -g lide.device 0

I can't think of any reason why SCSI would be any faster at PIO than IDE

I'll try that at some point. I haven't seen any figures, but the system just feels to be very slightly sluggier. (directory listing loading a bit slower etc.) - I'll test with those at some point to know it's just not my imagination. 👍

I understand the PIO being an unlikely bottleneck, but couldn't (theoretically) more cpu time consuming driver be causing slower loading under load for example?
