Imp not starting on ubuntu derived distros

When running imp on mint I get the following trace
Installed all dependencies, followed the guidelines in the readme.

Last time i saw this was on Tim's Macbook. He fixed it somehow by reinstalling his python environment. Exact reason is still unknown, but apparently it's caused by a bad environment.
