Yaru theme shortcut/link icons

I think after upgrading to Debian 13, shortcut icons also corrupted. in screenshot shortcut icons dont look like taking from Yaru theme. More looks like Gnome theme.

The icons shown in your screenshots are definetly the Yaru theme ones. I checked it by changing it to the default Adwaita and GNOME icons, which look very different.

I guess the icons just changed, that the shortcuts arent colored anymore as it was with the old debian 12 yaru version.

I guess you expect it to be like in this screenshot?

When I change in debian 13 the iconset to yaru-blue for example, everything looks as expected:

I also just started a ubuntu 25.04 live system where it looks the same - so I see this as a proof that this is how it is expected to be :)

thanks for response. well I was expecting colored shortcut icons like in 2nd picture you shared as in Debian 12. But if latest icons are grey on original Ubuntu (last picture in your reply), then it is fine. But in my experience (also you experienced) with Debian 13, i am getting default Gnome shortcut icons there. Definitely something is broken with Deb13 update.. Hope it is fixed anytime soon. Maybe they should release Yaru-Theme repository update. Is there anything can you do about it?

I tested to install the latest git version from the yaru theme https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru

apt purge "yaru-theme*" # remove all yaru theme packages
apt install git
apt build-dep yaru-theme #get build dependencies of the yaru-theme package
git clone https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru 
cd yaru
./bootstrap.sh -b # build and install latest yaru theme, at time of writing 25.10.1

After a restart of your gnome session / computer you should have your yaru icons to be like this:

with this you can also use the gnome-shell yaru theme, which is broken (your other issue #1 ). but I havent figured out yet if this really will fix it or an other setting from the script causes trouble.

Thank you very much! Yes it fixed all issues now. Only little problem with rebuilding Yaru theme from original source. After build and install it sets Shell to Adwaita and accent color to blue. I had to re-run gsettings set accent color orange command after reboot.

Also this fixes the issue with top-right network icons arrow icons were not fitting well.

In my opinion instead of using Debian repository in the bash script, it might be better idea to "git clone from official ubuntu/yaru github repository.

Thank you again :) I dont like Ubuntu anymore since they switched to Snapd but I love their purple/orange theme and colors.

Before finding your script I was doing all manually. Keeping Yaru theme and all dependencies offline. And building myself. I found tutorial steps how to make/build it several years ago but cant find now. Automation is nice but i also want to keep them offline for backup.

Can I ask another favor please? :) Can you make Flatpak/Firefox and Evolution/Thunderbird settings optional? I personally dont like to install Flatpak and Snap in my Debian. (Before running your script I am removing those lines

When I set "Dark" in top-right menu, it switches to Dark theme in all desktop except menu itself. Is there any fix for this? I know it is related to Shell, when shell is dark, menu is also dark and when light menu is light. But in original Ubuntu when you click "Dark" it changes all to dark including menu.

I have no idea so far. What I noticed it, that in vanilla debian gnome installation, the color of the panel is not changing when switching between dark and light mode. So it might be some ubuntu special patch in gnome? I really dont know :/
