Line 6 Tap Tempo CC

Hello, I have a ToneX One hooked up through the effects loop of a Line 6 HX Stomp XL.
I use the 5 pin midi out of the Stomp into my ToneXControllers trs jack and use snapshots and the Command Centre to change presets and to activate any function I want on the ToneX.

I couldn't be happier with how well it works. The options between the two of them are incredible but I cannot get the tap tempo/midi clock from the Stomp to be seen by the ToneX.

The Line 6 midi table says that their Helix and HX line use CC 64 at 64-127 for tap tempo.
Would it be possible somehow translate or convert CC64 to CC10 so they can be tempo synced together?

Maybe possibly as an option in the Midi settings for Line6 devices or if it was easy enough just a tweaked firmware.
I have absolutely no idea how easy or difficult something like that would be so I hope I am not being too presumptuous or asking too much.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply.
The Tonex tap temp works by sending multiple CC 10 mesages, with no payload. The time elapsed between them sets the tempo.
With the line 6 having 65-127, that sounds like the tempo is set by the value?

CC64 is already used on the Tonex for reverb pre-delay.
I can't think of an easy way of map between these 2 without some custom code mods.

Oh that's very interesting. I was a little confused how the 65-127 thing worked but that makes sense now that it is sending a value kinda representing a Bpm value if I understand correctly.

It does sound a difficult mod converting the message so I'm starting to think I may tap off the tap tempo switch terminals on the StompXL, run it through a buffer (maybe an opto to be truly safe) and send it to one of the hardware switch inputs of the ToneX Controller and assign it to the tap tempo function.

I think I read in some of your replies while researching this that you mentioned adding a hardware footswitch as a separate tap tempo switch.
If that is true I should still have the ToneX and the HXStomp synced as they are both triggered from the same switch.

The ToneX may not like it when I hold down the footswitch to enter tuner mode but I assume a couple of taps and it will be back to normal.

Hi Matt. You are welcome.
Yes you can have up to 4 footswitches directly attached (and more via extra hardware if you need.)
And yep you can assign tap tempo to a footswitch via the "FX" options in the web config.

As far as holding the button, I don't think it would cause any issues. The switching in the controller use the button release event, and also the tap tempo has clamps on the timing so its not possible to set invalid values (from memory 60 bpm is the lowest value)

I plan on rebuilding the controller and power setup with a more compact S3-mini as I dont tend to look at the screen when the StompXl is in control.
Looking forward to incorporating the footswitch with the new setup.
