Rename and hide audio devices/outputs

A simple feature which is missing is the ability to rename and hide audio devices/outputs. If you have multiple monitors connected to your PC and maybe an external soundcard or two, they will all show up in the audio output section on the toolbar.

On Windows you can easily rename the devices to have user friendly names, as well as hide the output/devices that you do not use. So for example I want to hide all the HDMI outputs and rename my external DAC to "headphones".

In pavucontrol -> Configuration choose Profil Analog Stereo, then all HDMI outputs will be hidden

Look at wireplumber docs how to rename devices.

Hiding HDMI outputs was only an example. I should be able to choose what I hide. Wireplumber configuration is hideously complicated. Bad answer.

Wireplumber configuration is hideously complicated.

This excuse comes up again and again when people are too lazy to read a manual.
Renaming a device with wireplumber is not complicated.

It is not an excuse. If I have to read a manual to rename an audio device that is a failure on the part of the OS, not the user. People like you are the problem with the Linux community.

You should learn that Linux is not Windows! In Linux you have to think for yourself sometimes, if you are able to do so.

You’re missing the point. I shouldn’t *have* to do work for simple tasks. People like you need to accept that windows does some things better. Stop defending a bad user experience.

Then go back to pulseaudio, then you can rename your devices with pavucontrol.
