Opinionated html language value.

Do we have an opinion on the site's locale value? Currently, the html is declared with 'lang="en"', which is generic.

Perhaps we should pick a more specific 'en-GB' or 'en-US' value, thus allowing us to pick up more grammatical issues. Currently there's some abiguity, for example, should we be using 'license' or 'licence'.

It's not a big issue, but my IDE's grammar checker is complaining, I like to keep it happy.

A consistent locale seems like a sensible idea.

I /think/ I merged some change that was replacing the UK verbiage to US one, but I'm not totally sure. You seem to have access to bigger tool than me. Personally I would like to keep the intial spirit, so it would be great to know where we stand right now.

Do you think it would be possible to get us a rough idea of where we stand currently? Like how many mistake we have in us english vs uk english?

I personally don't see a strong reason to change the current value, but I'm not against making it more specific. I believe en-US is considered as a more universal dialect these days, so I'd prefer it (I currently reside in the US, so I may be biased).

It's not my content. I don't mind if it is kept as en or changed to en-US for example. My point was concerned about catching (future) inconcistencies.

Framed this way, it does sound desirable, thank you for clarifying. I don't think my tooling analyzes these attributes though, and I'm not sure how many people use tooling that does that... But if we can agree on a change, I'm happy to review/approve.

My IDE does show natural language grammar issues. I'm battling with it to show me issues when it is set to English (USA) currently, it keeps reporting on English (British) issues.

From a cursory look, it seems that the content as a whole is mainly USA in feel but it isn't consistent, e.g. colors is used a lot.

colors is US I think (as opposed to colours in GB)

OK, the content is definitely American English.

I suggest we set the html tag's lang attribute to en-US. This will help catch: current, and future inconsistencies. It may well have a positive effect on accessibility.

I'm personally +1 for UK English. But don't care too much, and it should be the content as it currently is to inform that decision.

As far as visitors go, US is the biggest visitor, though per capita, the UK leads by far (or optionally Netherlands).
