we would like to pass metadata to a pipefile, but metadata like PLAYER_EVENT, TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, or TRACK_ID are not exposed. We see only config data.

not sure if available at all, but with a script that runs on ONEVENT_COMMAND, we could generate the xml that owntone reads

Hello mfauvain, I am really not too familiar with using pipefiles in advanced ways.
Also, I believe that if some new features must be added, these requests should be opened on the upstream project. This one is just a Docker image for the librespot application, it does not define any feature on its own.

That said, and only trying to imagine what you are trying to achieve, I would like to suggest you the "SpotConnect" alternative. This can create a Spotify Connect device on top of a AirPlay device or a UPnP device.

Considering that a UPnP device can be obtained using the combination of mpd and upmpdcli, right now I am playing from Spotify to a mpd instance, and some metadata are available using mpc (a client application for mpd). See:

There are python libraries that you can use to easily build tools which can monitor what's playing on your device, if that's what you are trying to do.
Ah forgot to mention, MPD can play to pipefiles.

Of course, in the provided example, MPD_PORT=6601 is only needed when you override the default MPD port.

Maybe this is useful for your use case?
If so and if docker is a tool you want/need to use, I maintain docker images for all these apps, upmpdcli, mpd and spotconnect.

Thx for the quick answer. I tried spotconnect but got segfault either with your docker version or the one from Philippe44.. not sure why, it starts well and segfault at the first packet received from the spotify client.
The librespot docker works perfect except metada, I can live with this for now.

hello, about the segfault, especially with the distributed binaries, have you tried the static version of the binary?

if I can chime in. In the discussion here on the same topic, it is suggested to use write a event_handler script to write the information into the metadata pipe.
In that respect, @GioF71, would it be possible to add python3as runtime dependency in the Dockerfile ?

Hello @beaudett, I was very concerned with the increase of image size, but I just performed a test, and the difference in the uncompressed image is just 34 MB so a lot less that what I was expecting.
