vfio.conf errors

I ran the script with direct execution, complete install. After reboot, I saw these errors. There are many more lines but this is an excerpt.

Should I be concerned?

Thank you for the re-assurance @mirothedj

Nevertheless, I decided to uninstall and roll back the changes. After further research, this project is great for streamlining GPU pass through to VMs and does not yet support LXCs, which is what I wanted. So for now, I will be bookmarking this project for future features update.

Same issue happened to me on proxmox 9.1.

The issue seems to be with invocation to whiptail --checklist, it expects each entry to have a status ON/OFF whereas current script only has a tag and text, which causes whiptail to exit printing help screen, which is later fed into the loop querying lspci with empty/incorrect filter.

Workaround is to do the offline installations as per instructions in the README (almost, new releases do not have src subdir)
Then edit proxmox_configuratior.sh and change line
gpu_list+="$i \"$bdf_full - $desc ($id)\" "
to
gpu_list+="$i \"$bdf_full - $desc ($id)\" OFF "

After above change it correctly creates a config with just the selected gpus.

Hi, I had to revert changes manually and I will track everything the script did to be sure it didn't break anything else but on my system (proxmox VE 8.4.14), the script replaced my existing /etc/modprobe.d/vfio.conf without backing it up (or if it did, I have no idea where) and filled it with hundreds of malformed lines.

Also, the menu doesn't allow selection of GPU during setup; it just assumes all GPUs should be passed-through. If you happen to have an IPMI (server board with built-in KVM), the script will automatically select and apply all configs for this GPU as well (this makes no sense functionally speaking).

[EDIT] Looks like the script also added source.list files even if the existing ones already contained all the required entries which led to duplicates. Although this will not cause breaking errors, it will throw warning when users try to update. The existing files should be parsed to verify if all the entries are already present before any modification is done.

All in all, I would recommend:

• Allow the user to select which GPU should be considered
• Verify if a file exist before overwriting it and backing up (ie: oldfilename.bkp.timedate) any configuration made
• Verify if configuration is already set before modifying/adding anything (if it's not broken, don't fix it!)
• Inform the user of all the files modified (configuration files - add that information to some log file)
• Inform the user of the location of the logfile

I also just came across this issue, and had to manually edit my vfio.conf to remove many lines of inaccurate content, e.g.

I had to cut that all back to a (corrected) single options line, and regenerate initramfs.

I've also noticed the duplicate repository issue on 9.1 / Debian Trixie and ended up deleting the pecu sources file.
